Behind two home runs from Stanton and a strong outing from ace Gerrit Cole, who earned a Quality Start Plus, the Yankees defeated the Chicago Cubs 6-3 at Yankee Stadium in New York City on Monday.
The Yankees jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on Stanton’s eighth home run of the season. The Yankees added another run in the second on Josh Donaldson’s 10th home run of the season, and scored their fourth run in the third on Vader’s two-run double to put the game out of reach early.
Stanton added his ninth home run of the season in the bottom of the fifth to seal the deal.
Mike Tuckman, who played for the Hanwha Eagles until last year, had a solid game at the plate for the Cubs, going 1-for-4 with a walk, a run scored, and a lone double, but it wasn’t enough to prevent the team from losing.
