Lesman Paredes (26, Bahrain) set a new record by winning the World Weightlifting Championships for two consecutive years as a different nationality.
Paredes won the men’s 96kg class at the 2022 World Weightlifting Championships held in Bogota, Colombia on the 13th (Korean time) with a snatch of 185kg, a jerk of 212kg, and a total of 397kg.
Paredes was pushed back to second place in the jerk, but with an overwhelming performance in the impression, he won the total with a margin.
Nurgisa Adiletuli (Kazakhstan), who weighed 383 kg (174 kg for snatch, 209 kg for jerk), ranked second in total.
Paredes was born in Cali, Colombia in 1996, and has been active as a Colombian national team since 2015 when he was 19 years old.
In the 96kg class of the 2021 World Weightlifting Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan last year, he set a new world record of 187kg in weightlifting and lifted a total of 400kg (213kg in jerk) to win his first major gold medal.
However, Paredes went through the Bahraini naturalization process without disclosing the exact reason. The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) announced in July of this year that “Paredes is allowed to compete in IWF-sponsored competitions as a Bahraini national”.
At the 2022 World Championships held in Colombia, where he was born, Paredes stood at the top of the podium, looking at the Bahraini flag. 메이저놀이터
