Texas Rangers transfer Max Scherzer is back in the win column.
The right-hander pitched six innings of seven-hit ball, striking out nine and walking two to earn his 10th win of the season and fourth of the 2023 Major League Baseball season against the Chicago White Sox at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas, on Thursday. The team won 5-3.
He struggled in the first inning, giving up three runs on three hits and two walks. He held the mound from the second through the sixth innings without allowing another run, while the Texas offense scored one run in the second, one in the third, and two in the fourth to break the game open.
Scherzer was relieved by Josh Svotz in the seventh inning with his team leading 4-3. Texas scored one more run in the eighth and held on for the two-run win. Scherzer, who was acquired from the New York Mets in a one-day trade, earned the win in his first start in a Texas uniform.먹튀검증
Texas manager Bruce Bochy was pleased with Scherzer’s performance. “He couldn’t have had any worse luck early on,” Bochy said. “He showed what a great competitor he is. We threw him a lot of pitches in the first inning, but he reset and went out there. It was fun to watch him compete.”
MLB.com noted that “Scherzer was unfazed by the 56 pitches he threw in two innings in his first start since the trade,” and that “Scherzer showed just how tough he is.”
MLB.com also noted that “Scherzer is known for his competitiveness. Mitch Garber was impressed.” “He’s on fire,” said Garber, the Texas catcher who took Scherzer’s pitch that day, “He really likes to compete. He wants to win.”
Scherzer went 9-4 in 19 games before the trade. He had a bit of an up-and-down July, but has been steadily racking up wins. Scherzer, a one-time American League Cy Young Award winner and two-time National League Cy Young Award winner, is now leading the charge for Texas, which leads the American League West instead of the Mets.
