Kia Tigers manager Kim Jong-kook has been ejected for protesting a video replay.
Kim was ordered to leave the game against the Samsung Lions of the 2023 Shinhan Bank Solar KBO League at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field on Nov. 13 after protesting a video review in the third inning. This is the fifth time a manager has been sent off this season.
With the score tied at 0-0 in the top of the third inning, KIA pitcher Yang Hyun-jong picked up Samsung’s Jose Pirela’s grounder to first base, but Yang’s throw to first base to catch Pirela went wide.
KIA requested a video review of Pirela’s three-pitch violation.스포츠토토
The replay showed Pirela running inside the foul line. However, the review showed that Pirela was safe.
“The runner did run into fair territory, but the pitcher missed the first pitch,” the umpires explained.
Outraged by the call, which recognized Pirela’s violation of the three-foot rule but did not call him out, Kim took to the field to protest.
However, the call was not changed, and Kim had to leave the dugout, as the rule states that protesting after the video review will result in an ejection.
Kim was also ejected after a video review against the Gwangju NC Dinos on March 16.
The three-foot line rule was also an issue then.
In the fifth inning, with runners on first and second, Kia’s Shin Beom-soo laid down a sacrifice bunt. NC pitcher Ryu Jin-wook caught it and threw it to first base, where the ball hit Shin’s foot and bounced.
The NC bench requested a video review, and it was ruled that Shin was caught stealing third base, so he was out and the two runners returned to their original positions.
