FIFA explained, “OCEAUNZ was inspired by the vast and unique natural landscapes of Australia and New Zealand, co-hosts, and has a design that symbolizes the connection between Australia’s Indian Ocean and New Zealand’s mountains.”
FIFA Secretary General Fatma Samura introduced, “The rich culture of Australia and New Zealand Aotearoa associated with OCEAUNZ will allow fans visiting the tournament to experience ‘more than great’.”
OCEAUNZ is a ‘connected ball’ with the same cutting-edge technology as Alihla, the official ball for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. It contains data that allows the video referee to pinpoint the position of the ball, and is used for semi-automatic offside techniques.
The 32 teams that have passed the regional qualifiers for each continent will be divided into 8 groups of 4 teams for the group stage. Afterwards, the top two teams from each group advance to the Round of 16 tournament to determine the winner.
The Korean women’s soccer team, led by coach Colin Bell, is in Group H along with Germany, Colombia and Morocco. The first match is against Colombia at the Sydney Football Stadium on July 25th.
